Our very first Chapter Chats book selection is, Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. This read is one for the books. Where the Crawdads Sing has all of the drama, innocence, devastation, and passion that you may be seeking within a captivating read. There has been a lot of hype surrounding this particular book, and it is well-deserving of the attention. We believe this book, Where The Crawdads Sing, is the ideal book to launch our very first Chapter Chats discussion, because the reader will connect and become empathetic for the mysterious main character, Kya (referred to as the “Marsh Girl”), and as the audience observes her whole life develop to fruition. We became thoroughly invested in her story, growth, and capabilities as a self-made woman.
“I had so many people telling me about this read, I started and could not stop, and absolutely fell in love with this story! There is a master craft and reason behind every element within this intriguing story and the twists and turns will leave you wanting more. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone!” -Madisyn Weyrens
Kya is a young girl who becomes broken and empty after a sheltered childhood of confusion and has to process her life and the nature that surrounds her. This lifestyle inevitably raises this young girl into the intelligent, clever, and carefree woman of the wild that she becomes throughout the longevity of this story and her life. All the while of living and fending for herself in the deep marshes of North Carolina's coastal backdrop, this mysterious “Marsh Girl” battles a few too many heartaches that leave her trusting no one besides herself and the seagulls that guide her simple, perplexing, and beautiful life. There is also a murder in Barkley Cove of the city’s all-star athlete, Chase Andrews, that is weaved throughout the plot of Kya’s delicate and simple life within the marshes. The hope, intrigue, and anticipation will certainly keep you on your toes, wanting to read more of Kya’s life story and the trials she faces throughout the book, Where the Crawdads Sing.
“This book was gripping from the first page to the last. It has stuck with me 6 months later and is one of the best books I have ever read. It tugged on my heartstrings, my mind, and my perspective. This is a must-read!” –Andrea Johnson
