Wonderful addition for school
I'm currently in school and two semesters away from graduation and purchased this bag. I wanted a bag made in the USA and I could not have found a better company to do business with. I explained, "why" I wanted to buy the bag from them and told them that I was a veteran and they gave me a ten percent discount for my service. I did not see this bag as being too pricey since I read reviews where some people had their bags a long time. I'm going to be getting into a Masters Program and I'm happy to have this bag to make a statement in great American craftsmanship. I would recommend Duluth to anyone. A great purchase. It's time for all Americans to get off the Chinese diet and start investing in our companies that make and sell American products. Review by Daniel (Posted on 11/5/2015)
Built to last.
I splurged and bought this bag to go with my first full time job. Fifteen years, two Labrador puppies and being loaded to the gills everyday have failed to wreck this bag. I'm sure I will have this bag when I retire. Review by MNTeacher (Posted on 10/26/2013)
Going strong after over 10 years.
I have had this bag for something like 12 years. The bag has one little hole in the canvas which I punctured while carrying something pointy. Amazingly the hole has been there for probably 5 years but does not get any bigger due to the incredibly tough canvas. In an age where things seem to break in months, this bag had been so solid. I use it every day in the summer heat and the winner cold. I've over-stuffed it and cranked down on the buckles more times than I care to remember. It really is amazingly durable. While it looks weathered, it still looks great after all this time despite getting zero care. Review by Rob (Posted on 8/6/2013)
Deluxe Book Bag, my favorite school/work bag!
I thought I'd field test this bag before I write a review, and here I am two months after I got the Deluxe Book Bag. I did an internet search for USA made bags and found Duluth. I've never been to Minn., never heard of this brand, and was hesitant to dropping 130USD on a bag. Well, I have no regrets. I'm a hard to please shopper who wants things that are functional yet aesthetically pleasing, and this bag satisfies both those categories. I'm a bit over 5' and the size of the bag is perfect: fits 13" laptop, a couple of books, water bottle, etc. while still remaining comfortable enough to carry because of wide straps and it doesn't slip off my shoulder like so many other bags do. It's really well-made and looks it too.The brass hardware is sturdy and tastefully accents the bag. I go to school and work part-time and this bag transitions nicely between these two settings. I've also received compliments on from friends and strangers.

The only drawback applies to petite shoppers: the nice leather shoulder pad cannot be adjusted to fit over your shoulder if you get the shorten the strap to have the bag hang hip level. If I want to use the leather shoulder pad, I would have to lengthen the strap until the bag dangles at thigh level, and then it just swings around too much.

Deluxe Book Bag B-137
I've had this bag for a month now, and I just love it. I'm a function over form person, especially for bags, but this bag has ample amounts of both.

It's made in the US!
It is really beautiful. Is and looks high-quality. I was afraid that it would be too masculine but it's not. The leather/canvas combo is handsome and well proportioned. The brass hardware is sturdy and attractive.
I love using canvas bags but I always holes on the bottom corners so I'm got this one specifically because it is reinforced with leather.
Spacious, holds a lot but doesn't feel bulky or too big even though I'm petite.
I'm tired of bags sliding off my shoulders. This one stays on!

Nothing wrong with the bag itself, but there are a few things that would have made it more functional for me: 1) a different strap adjuster and 2) side pockets. I'm unable to use the nice leather strap pad because because the bag's too long for me when the pad is centered on the strap, and there's no way for me to use the pad when the straps are on a "short person" setting. I usually take public transport at home and when I travel; a side pocket would be nice to hold a transit card, which you have take out multiple times in one journey.

For an ready-made bag, this is still great. Highly recommend!

Love this bag!
I didn't just purchase this bag, but reading these reviews has reminded me of how much I love the bag! Mine is about six years old and still looks great. I too, am petite (several reviewers mention this) . . .I am perfectly happy with the large size of this bag. In fact, I expected/wanted the bag to be large. I love the "spruce" color; in fact most of the Duluth Pack items I own are spruce. The color goes well with the various jewel tones I like to wear. Review by Fabric Collector (Posted on 9/27/2012)
Perfect School/Teacher Bag
Last January I traveled to Duluth, MN and stopped into the Duluth Pack store. I wanted to pick out my burgundy deluxe book bag in person, and the store staff was wonderful in helping me make my decision. I needed a bag that I can use my last two years of college, and continue to use as I become a teacher. After several months of hard core use I find this bag exceptional. On a daily basis, I pack my bag with several text books, notebooks, thick folders, a large laptop, and water bottle into this bag--and it remained comfortable to tote around. The strap is still in perfect condition, and the bag has become more flexible due to its every day use. I did noticed that the edges of some of my books had burgundy tenting due to rub off of the bags new fabric. However, after about a month of use the bag no longer discolors any edges of the paper items. I am very happy with my purchase and am excited to continue to use the bag daily several years from now. Great bag
I was a little leery to buy a book bag for $130 over the internet. However, I have heard good things about Duluth Pack, so I took a chance. Am I ever glad I did. My bag came yesterday and I could not beleive how well made it is. The leather on the bag is of the finest quality. I bought the spruce which is a beautiiful green. Everything about the bag is top quality. I can not recommend this highly enough. I will certainly look to DP for any future bag needs. GOOD JOB Duluth Pack! Review by Tim (Posted on 4/3/2012)
Great Bag
Great looks, great construction, great quality, what more can I say. I bring this bag everywhere, and it looks the part in the office, the airport, or on campus. Big enough for a laptop in a sleeve, power cords, and a two 1" thick books. Roomy, but not huge. Great bag, made in USA, very classy. Review by SR20Flyer (Posted on 11/10/2011)
Twenty Years Later...
My mom bought this bag back in the early 90s when she was going to college, she used it daily until I started middle school when I stole it from her. Since then its made it through middle school, high school, and half of my college career and it is still kicking (with no issues). Its been a great camping companion, a great school companion, and has even made it to and from several countries. And I agree, the older it gets, the more attractive it becomes. I would recommend this bag to anyone and everyone. Review by jazmang (Posted on 9/21/2011)
Wham Bam
I've had this bag for over four years now. Got me through 4 years of college and two cross continental vacations. All due respect to the previous rating, but being a petite woman myself, I have absolutely no issue with the size of this bag. I manage to get a good amount of stuff in this baby, and am still ambulatory. And, although I'm sure it need not be said, this bag is beautiful, durable beyond measure, and looks better and better with wear. The color fades over a couple years, and the leather holds up incredibly well; its beauty truly comes with age. Review by yahareena (Posted on 7/6/2011)
Great bag for anyone!
I am a junior in high school and work on a ranch so i needed a bag that could withstand a teenage boy and ranch work( it has been thru 2 long cattle drives) I have had this bag for two years and besides a few scrapes and stains it still looks great. but stains and scrapes gives the bag character. It is a good bag for anyone who has a busy and fast pace lifestyle like mine. It is a great get-up-and-go bag. I recommend it to anyone! Review by Claytown (Posted on 11/2/2010)
After the airline lost all my checked luggage, I lived out of this bookbag for two months in Europe and Asia. 17 countries and 6 years later, it's still holding up perfectly and the leather just gets better with age. Review by Tag (Posted on 8/5/2010)
Beautiful, Durable, a bit small
Maybe I carry too much stuff, but the 4" depth is not enough with a laptop in a sleeve. But... what a beautiful bag. Sometimes I wish for a grab handle at the top, since I own a Duluth Builders Bag. The leather strap pad is elegant and functional. Review by Paul J (Posted on 7/16/2010)
Petities need not apply!
I ordered this bag to hold my laptop and other school things, but when it came it was HUGE. I knew the dimensions ahead of time, but because the bag is so boxy and rigid it was entirely unwieldy. If you are a smallish woman, I would definitely consider a different bag. Although the style and quality were great! Review by MN student (Posted on 7/15/2010)
Great Book Bag
I have no complaints when it comes to this book bag. Everything I wanted was in this bag. It is durrable and attractive looking. You wont be dissapointed. Review by Alex (Posted on 5/25/2010)
I love this bag!
I have owned the bag now for 3 months and I am in love with it! It is wonderfully made with very high quality leather and canvas.
I got a laptop sleeve for my laptop and there is still plenty of room. I love how much room is still in it.

Great messenger bag, works great. I take it with me on all of my trips. Review by Jon (Posted on 5/30/2009)
Got me through grad school
I bought this bag back in 97 and used it for my years in grad school and after until 03. During this time I rode bike to work every day rain snow or shine. I overstuffed it with heavy books time and again. I used it to run errands all over town. When I cleaned up, I used it for travel to conferences and presentations, and for a few years after.

After several years, some of the trim started fraying from use. I sent it back and DP replaced the trim. At this point I still have and occasionally use my pack, but use something larger to go to work nowadays.

Since I used mine for bike commuting for years, the 4 stars reflect DP not having a few things that specifically bike-oriented bags will include. First, someplace to hang a rear blinkie would be nice. Second, a little more volume would make it easier to pack a t-shirt on sweaty days.

OTOH, I don't think I have any bags that put up with such heavy duty daily use as this one, that are still going strong.

Great Bag
I love this bag. I've owned it for 7-8 years and not treated it all that well and it still looks great and is holding up like a champ. I used it primarily as a book bag through college and now with a cheap neoprene laptop case I use it as my laptop bag.

I suspect that sometime in the next decade or so I'll have to stop in the Superior Street factory and have a new strap put on since mine has been fraying for years, but in the mean time, I could have gone through a dozen other bags instead.

My only complaint isn't even entirely about this product, it's the fact that I couldn't buy the matching Duluth Pack laptop sleeve and use it with the Deluxe Book Bag I already owned. The sleeve is slightly too big to fit inside this bag with a 15" laptop in it.
