Pannier Bike Bag

I was surprised at the size. I'm able to fit my 2-man tent into these things standing up straight (just barely fits, but it fits). My big concern was regarding the mounting system. So the lions-share of the weight is supported by the piece of canvas that connects the two bags and rests atop the bike rack. All the seams & stitching done here is top notch, I'm not at all concerned about that breaking. There's also a clip-in system to secure your bags to the lower part of your rack, this is so they don't go flying around all over the place. This part of the design is my main concern. I like that they didn't go with a leather buckle & strap here as that would have been awkward, the plastic clip is much quicker to put on and take off. I'm just afraid that this is going to be the first point of failure. Maybe and hopefully I'm wrong about that. Everything about this set is awesome. I use them for commuting daily and the occasional bikepacking. Like all Duluthpack products, these are not waterproof. In a light rain they will hold up just fine, but if you're going to be biking in heavy rainfall for awhile consider lining the inside of your bags with some sort of waterproofing to protect stuff. I got the waxed khaki, and they look real good on my bike. Looking forward to using these bad boys for many years and miles to come.

I purchased this bag first for an Ortlieb Quick Rack, which was completely incompatible due to the buckle strap attachment of the bags. I liked the look of the bags so much that I bought a new rack (Axiom Streamline Disc 29er) specifically to run these bags. The problem I've encountered is that the buckle/strap style attachment to the rack is nearly impossible to sufficiently tighten. This results in the plastic buckle poking into the spokes and the bags inevitably slumping to one side after going over any small bump. Also, due to the location of the buckle, any tension you put on the strap is focused on the flat side of the plastic buckle from the lower rack bar. Additionally, since there is no top attachment point, the bags slide off the back of the bike if you're loaded and pushing up stairs or a similar incline. I tried to fix this by hooking the included center drawstring bungee cord over the rack but the load still slid off. These are on the high end of price for pannier bags, and Duluth Pack products are marketed as bespoke, functional stuff. I feel like there should have been more testing and thought put into the attachment style. My recommendation would be to use a velcro style attachment that also includes upper attachment hooks/velcro on each bag. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, these definitely need carry handle(s).
