A beautiful pack. I use my thermarest to line the pack and it works beautifully. I can fit allllot of stuff in this bag, even for a week long backpacking trip. It is tough and well built. Pretty comfortable with no need for a waist belt, a tleast for me. I love the thick leather, huge pockets and color, i got the olive drab and it looks great. Overall a great pack that will last a long time. Go buy it!! Review by Jahmin (Posted on 10/2/2010)

Bought this along with a couple other Duluth Packs for my upcoming bwca trip to use as our daypack / overflow but also because right now I have to travel a lot for my job. I am working overseas and wanted a backpack large enough to hold my clothes for 2 weeks when I go home plus whatever extra stuff I need to bring back with me. Regular luggage doesn't work on gravel so I needed a backpack. The Rambler is large enough to hold everything I need to squeeze in and I am still able to take it as a carry on. It's very well made, durable and I like knowing that if anything happens to it I can send it back to be repaired good as new. If I had one complaint it would be that I would have liked the waxed canvas but passed because I thought that the difference in price was too high. Review by Howie (Posted on 9/29/2010)

My favorite pack

I currently own three Duluth Pack packs and the Rambler is my favorite. It is the perfect size for day paddle trips when I want/need to bring some extra gear or as my "small" pack on overnight paddling trips. I also have used it on many scout outings with my son (he packs his clothes and sleeping bag in it). It is extremely well made and I have had no complaints with the workmanship/craftsmanship for the past eight years. I prefer the front zippered pocket to the buckle type, simply because it makes it easier to get to the small items. The shoulder straps are very comfortable, but I tend to agree with some of the other reviewers that leather straps would be nice to have. My only complaint is that I purchased my Rambler before waxed canvas was available. Overall, a great pack. Review by pspaladi (Posted on 7/20/2010)
A great pack, except for the shoulder straps

I've carried this pack for 7 summers on multiple BWCA trips, and it's never let me down. Two improvements I would suggest:
1. Get rid of the canvas shoulder straps! After 3 days of sun and bug bites, the LAST thing I want to have mashing into my shoulders are two dirty, grit filled, rough canvas shoulder straps! The simple leather straps that are standard issue on all othe Duluth Packs would be a MAJOR improvements. I personally had mine replaced with the deluxe straps, and look forward to using it this summer!
2. A couple of lash points on top for raingear/drying stuff would be great.
3. I'd love to see it souped up a bit like the new "northwoods pack"- the sleeves behind the two front pockets are brilliant!

Perfect size for me!

I bought the waxed canvas for additional weather protection in the BWCA. It's the perfect size for ALL of my gear for a 4 day trip. I also use it as my weekender bag for trips to the lake. I love this bag! Review by bjr (Posted on 7/15/2010)
Perfect for scoutcraft & fishing (and canoeing)

I have owned my Rambler for 4 years. I use it at least monthly for overnight fairly primitive scoutcraft explorations in Olympic National Forest and fishing trips all over the rainy Olympic Peninsula in Washington. I also use it for dayhikes all the time. Mostly I use it with an 18-inch pack basket, which fits pretty tightly, but offers great protection to my gear and my back. It also makes organization easier. I usually leave the basket at home for dayhikes. Have used it to haul all my personal gear on a weeklong camping/fishing trip along the Yukon River, and for a week in the Boundary Waters this past Summer.
This pack has never let me down. It's extremely durable, and versatile. I can't remember what I paid for it, but it has certainly turned out to be a better value than something cheaper. Still looks almost new. I love the pockets. I love the whole pack. It never disappoints.
If you don't use a pack basket, it works well to put one of those folding canoe seats right inside the back,. That helps it keep its shape -- making it easier to pack and un-pack. It also protects your back from hard/pointy gear.
I can't think of anything I don't like about the Rambler. Might love it even more with leather shoulder straps, but that's picking nits.

Rambling On!

I’ve used this pack for day trips on the AT as well as a book bag for college, not mention the occasional overnight trip. It has held up and performed well. I would not recommend this particular pack for long hikes with heavy loads due to poor weight distribution. But overall a great pack for short trips. Review by Him (Posted on 8/22/2008)
