When I travel, which is several times each year, I take two bags:

1. A duffel, which gets checked and which holds the bulk of my necessities: clothing, shave kit, toiletries, etc.
2. A backpack, which I carry aboard and which holds a laptop, electronic stuff, maybe a jacket.

My carry-on stuff fits nicely in this backpack. However, the leather straps are a little uncomfortable. It would be better if this backpack had a waist strap, so the load is on your hips instead of your shoulders.

I shave with a straight razor, and on my latest trip, I forgot to pack a strop. Stropping is a necessary part of straight razor shaving. It keeps the blade sharp. Without a strop, the blade can dull quickly. So I used the leather straps of this backpack as a strop.

Love the design but torn after 3 or so years of use.

The canvas on the bottom has torn after just three years of use. Not sure whether to try and have the company repair it or just do it myself. Review by Art (Posted on 7/21/2015)
Nice!

Beautiful! A little heavy, and the straps are a little uncomfortable, but that will definitely be fixed once I get used to it, and wear it in. Wonderful, Duluth! Review by Houndpride (Posted on 6/20/2015)
Too heavy

I love the look, craftsmanship and idea, but this is far too heavy for a female to carry books in to school. I tried, but it is a bear. Add the large and bulky straps and it feels like you're carrying a tent to class. Sorry~ Review by Jo (Posted on 3/15/2014)
Great stuff !

Love it. I have the Serengeti !
Use your imagination guys to those with quibbles - padding; put small rolled towel at base/ straps take 5 minutes to break in - try twisting and bending them - it works ! Great bag...

Beautiful bag, but large

I bought this bag to use as my daypack on an urban backpacking trip around Central and South America. My criteria for a backpack were: 1) Small and light weight, as it needed to fit inside my larger travel pack. 2) Rugged, so it could last 1-2 years on the road, 3) It must provide good protection for my laptop. 4) It should look stylish, and not make me look like a high school or college student.

This bag succeeded on all counts, except #1. Although it was light "enough" (coming in at 3.0 lbs--the standard laptop daypack is only 2.6lbs, FYI), it was too large and bulky, taking up a nearly a full half of my daypack's contents.

For this reason, I reluctantly returned this bag, which I loved in every other respect, for a smaller bag made by another company.

I didn't use the product long enough to determine how durable it is, but by all appearances, it's probably the most durable back pack I've ever seen, not counting my much larger MEI travel pack, with which it is probably a tie.

I think calling this a "daypack" is a bit of a misnomer, and instead would call it a "small backpack". But to be fair, any bag large enough to carry a laptop is going to be on the large-side of the "daypack" genre, in my opinion.

I would give it 5 stars if not for the fact that it didn't work for my needs.

Great bag, side pocket?

I've been using this bag for a little over a month now. It fits all my books, pens and, of course, my laptop. Everything is very sturdy and I have a very strong belief that this will be the last backpack (of this size) I'll ever buy.

I have only one issue with the bag and that is its lack of a side pocket or two. I'd like a place to be able to store an umbrella or water bottle. HOWEVER, for how durable this bag seems to be I can easily forget about this.

Good, but could use a few tweaks

I LOVE this backpack. I am able to fit everything I need in it (I have to carry a lot!!) It's durable and will certainly last a while. The one thing that concerns me is the laptop sleeve- there is no padding on the bottom so the laptop is prone in that area to dents/scratches if you are not careful. I tried putting some foam on the bottom, but it did not work. Review by Catie (Posted on 10/8/2011)
Fantastic

Pretty much my favorite backpack I've ever owned. I read some of the criticisms here and I disagree with some of them. My arms used to feel uncomfortable with the leather straps but after a few days, I got used to them and they feel very sturdy.

Secondly, the lack of water bottle holder is a good thing. Any added pockets on the outside would ruin the look of the bag.

The laptop sleeve is extremely convenient and there is a thin pocket behind it which is perfect for any documents/books. Overall, the ideal bag for the Indiana Jones on campus/in the city.

Great pack

I have thought about ordering one of these for years. I found myself in Duluth for work and decided to pull the trigger. I hemmed and hawed about the various bags and packs for an hour and a half. I travel extensively and have gone through a lot of laptop bags. This one is great- except for the fit- I'm a big guy (6-2 250) and it fits differently loaded. The straps bother my arm pits. This has never happened before. I am hoping that once the leather breaks in the problem will go away. A little longer strap would be great for larger torso folks. For that one reason it is a 4 and not the 5 I had hoped for. Review by Pat M (Posted on 7/18/2010)
