Sparky Bag

Made in America
One of our best selling daypacks, the Sparky Bag was designed to be the most versatile bag you own. It works great as an everyday work or school bag, but is equally at home while snowshoeing fresh powder or traversing rocky shorelines.

  • Burly 15-ounce canvas construction.
  • Zippered main compartment opens flat for quick access to anything inside.
  • Padded leather shoulder straps.
  • Two zippered side pockets for holding water bottles or extra gear.
  • Thick leather bottom for water resistance and added durability.
  • Two lash tabs and adjustable bungees to strap on additional items.
  • Interior zippered pocket.
  • Guaranteed for life. Made in the USA.

Built out of rugged 18-ounce canvas and reinforced with a thick layer of leather on the bottom, the Sparky Bag is built for the road less traveled. Features like padded leather shoulder straps, dual zippered side pockets, and a reinforced leather grab handle all make this bag ultra practical for long days around town or in the woods. To help speed up loading and unloading, just unzip the whole front panel of the pack open and lay it flat. In addition, two leather lash tabs on top of the pack and a web of bungees on the front make carrying along an extra item or two no problem at all. Side pockets are large enough to carry a thermos or 32-ounce water bottle. Made in USA.

Great Bag. Great memories. Great value.
One spring, around 15 years ago, my son and I took a fishing trip with my brother-in-law in MN. It was a fun and memorable trip-lots of fish caught and cooked up by my sister. On the way back, my son and I stopped by an outlet store, and I picked up a sparky bag for around $65. I use the bullet-proof pack for travel, day trips, and camping...but the best part - memories of time spent with family every time I pick it up. Review by Elmo (Posted on 12/27/2016)
Great capacity for heavy loads
Used my Sparky bag to lug many shelves worth of books and manuals from one office to another over the period of several weeks. The heavy duty design held considerable weight. (More than I ever thought.) The Sparky Bag showed no sign of stress at the seams nor at the rivets. I would not have attempted the same with any other competitors backpack. Quality is a Duluth Pack feature! Review by Sparkyfan (Posted on 11/18/2016)
True Story
I've reviewed this product positively before but I wanted to add this story. Recently I went to a very well respected(read expensive) tailor for the first time. I'm kind of embarrassed because I coming in with a used jacket. Pretty sure it is not the level he is used to. Jacket is rolled up in the Sparky bag which I flop on the counter. Tailor looks down and does a double take. Starts to examine the Sparky's shoulder straps. "Very strong. Good stitching." He is really impressed with construction and genuinely surprised. Nice job Duluth Pack. Review by Peter (Posted on 10/12/2015)

Bought one these bags years ago. I use the Sparky for everything, and take it every where. Just wonderful. Review by Beamer (Posted on 1/31/2015)

Just the best.

Great Product
I have had this bag for about six months. Waited to write review until I had taken it on a serious hike. I have used as a carry-on, brief case day bag and on a day hike. As with all Duluth products it is simple and extremely well made. I will wear out before it does. Fits my medium frame well although might be too big for a small person. Side pouches can easily hold a one liter water bottle or my reading galsses and cell phone. Main area can hold all you need for a day hike or over night. I have also carried my ski boots in it. Just had bag on a day hike that included long climb and rock scrambles. Bag was solid and stable through all. Would recommend for school, city, or woodland day hikes. Probably not the best for technical stuff like back country skiing or very hot weather. Review by Peter (Posted on 8/22/2012)
I bought the Sparky in waxed and have dragged it through the rain, steams, mud, snow and baking sun for the past two years. I use this pack daily for everything from kayaking, carry on, hiking, lunch bag, and baseball gear bag. My Sparky looks as good as the day I got it in the mail. This thing is built tough and rugged. I'll keep on abusing it and when it does fail I'll definately send it back in for repairs and order another new one for a back-up at that time! Review by Arrowit (Posted on 2/7/2012)
I bought this pack in 1994 at the Canal Park store in Duluth,MN. It has been my constant companion - on hiking trails, campsites, fishing excursions and business trips.
It gets better with age and experience.

It's a TANK!
This bag is very comfortable, classy, and tough. I use it for all kinds of things, it's especially good for collecting rocks and boulders on the beach, bushwacking through brush, and other pack-destructive activities. I don't think it will ever wear out, and the padded shoulder straps are extremely comfortable. It's great! Review by Winterlover (Posted on 10/6/2011)
Fantastic pack, well worth the price
My father originally bought this pack for day hikes; I now use it for college. Durable, roomy and just about indestructible, the Sparky bag is a wise investment. The size belies what the pack can really hold- I have to carry around a lot of adaptive equipment and I haven't had the need for a second bag. Review by Catie (Posted on 8/21/2011)
Worth weight in gold to daughter in college/grad school
Bought daughter a Sparky Bag in Duluth when she was going into her freshman year at College of St Benedict - she used it daily for 4 years - had it embroidered with name and college (actually, picture on Sparkey bag part of webpage is her using it in Rome/Study abroad). Now is going off to Vermont to Grad School - will have it embroidered again with different school name - she'll use it daily there too. Not one problem with the product. As good as my two old #4 bags that have been to Quetico a dozen times. Nice people in the store too. I'll buy another one for the boy when he graduates high school soon. Get one..that's all you will need.
My old pack fell apart after 15 years regular use so i stated looking about. I hate spending money so was looking for a pack built to last, not 15 years this time but 30! Ordered from the states (to England) i was impressed with the speed of delivery, 14 days in my hand.
I am certainly impressed with the bag, the information on this site leaves you with a good idea of what you get but like everything it is only when you see and feel the product can you really know. I now know, these are great bags for the money.
The only thing i would change would be to put two leather straps through the lash tabs at manufacture as these are real hard to get straps threaded through and it would be nice to have two straps of the same leather as the straps on the bag, these tabs were an important consideration for me as that is where my raincoat will sit.
I have no doubt in my mind that i will be back for more. Thanks for a great bag.

great addition to BWCA trips
Added as day pack and met or exceeded all expectations. Beware that colors (my case burgundy) bled into other packs/clothes at the first rain. I did not expect and should have anticipated. Review by silver fox (Posted on 7/27/2010)

An Awesome all around day pack!
Bombproof, beautiful, and terrifically organized. This pack has it all, and then some. My only addition: a "utility panel" inside the main compartment for things like pens, phone, ipod, whatever. I added one to mine myself and it made this pack as close to perfect as it gets! Review by RawRedmeat (Posted on 7/19/2010)
Perfect everyday/small trip pack
I've had my sparky bag for over 5 years now and just love it. Durable as all get-out, and while not a huge bag, I have been able to fit a lot of gear in to it. I love the size of the side pockets. And the quality of Duluth Pack construction and customer service is unrivaled! Review by fiesta (Posted on 7/19/2010)
very happy
This pack will last forever. It is durable, and very functionable. Factor the price over its' lifetime and it is a huge value. Don't think twice it is the last backpack you will ever need. Once again Duluth Pack delivers. Review by jim (Posted on 7/17/2010)
